We are only hours away from the General Elections in Turkey, and our thoughts are with those who have been suffering under the policies of the Erdogan Government. For over two decades, the working class of the country, young people, students, women and LGBT+ community and ethnic minorities have been systematically oppressed by the state, often with raw violence. In addition to that, based on NATO´s failures, Turkish politics have been fueled by nationalism, militarism and hostility against neighbouring countries.
Despite Erdogan´s contribution to turning Turkey into a state of emergency, the people have resisted fiercely, built their own resistance through collective struggles and social movements, and proudly defended their rights. The enormous work to rebuild the communities destroyed by the recent strong earthquakes is an example that shines the light of solidarity beyond borders.
People need a change. The Turkish left has always been a critical pillar of the popular movement and today stays committed to paving the way and, along with the peoples´ of Turkey, fighting for democracy and social justice. In Anametrisi, we closely monitor the situation in the neighbouring country, and we want to offer our solidarity and support to the communities and movements who fight for peace and democracy in their country and also in the broader region.
We call on people to recognise the left´s tireless work and support the Labour and Freedom Alliance (Emek ve Özgürlük İttifakı), the left-wing electoral alliance in which Türkiye İşçi Partisi (TiP), HDP and other left organisations are part of. We extend our support to them in the coming elections and beyond that.
Solidarity – Dayanisma!
