It is with great anger that we witness the mainstream media silencing the growing solidarity movement with the hunger and thirst striker D. Koufondinas, and his rightful demands. At the same time, we witness the one-sided over- promotion of the government’s propaganda, which calls the whole case as “yet another battle against terrorism”.
It is also with great indignation that we witness Facebook’s censorship, which takes good care of taking down posts that express solidarity with the hunger striker whose life is in imminent danger and they also try to make his demands and the real circumstances of his case public.
During this fierce battle, our activities on Facebook were under attack: an informative web event was banned, a post has disappeared while there was the constant threat of taking down our entire page. The page of a political organisation that did not conform to the dominant narrative that the government is so furiously determined to impose.
This threat was carried out today. Synantisi’s page is no longer published. If they are under the slightest impression that with this act of unprecedented censorship they will silence us, we have to inform them that they only manage to make us even more determined to continue our struggle so that life and justice may win.
Their attempts to silence us whether they take the form of physical repression as police violence on the streets, or they take place in the internet sphere, do not frighten us in the slightest. On the contrary we are now certain that they are afraid of our voices.
And our voices will unite with others that claim real democracy and freedom and will continue to shout for justice. Both on the streets and on social media, we will continue to shout:
No to the death of a hunger striker!
Solidarity with Dimitris Koufondinas.
We are asking you to become our voice and share this message as widely as possible.
